Nimish Patel studied at the MIT, Cambridge, USA, with specialization in Urban Settlement Design in Developing Countries, and also has a Diploma in Architecture from CEPT, Ahmedabad. He is a core team member of the Whole School Development Plan carried out by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and a Member of the Panel of Sustainability, Bureau of Indian Standards for the upcoming National Building Code. He is a Member of the INTBAU India Committee of Honour (IICoH) and also the IICoH Representative on the Board of INTBAU India, on the Editorial Board of StonEdge.

Nimish Patel has chaired the Green Building Group of Gujarat in the past and, along with Parul Zaveri.  They were also advisors to Quark City, Mohali, Punjab, for their large-scale real estate developments, in the aspects of Green Architecture, Sustainable development, and the use of Passive Human Comfort systems in the built environment.

He has officiated as Member of the Jury for the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Conservation Awards 2001 to 2004 & 2007 to 2009 & 2012 at Bangkok. He has lectured widely, nationally and internationally and has been a visiting faculty at CEPT for Architecture, Urban Design & Planning, and has taught at the Masters of Built Environmental Programme at UTS, Sydney, Australia.

He has been the recipient of Awards for energy efficiency, sustainability, contextual relevance and corporate social responsibilities in buildings.  They are: the ‘IIA-Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Award 1999’ for outstanding architectural work in the Rural Settlements of India for Diganter School;  the ‘ JIIA-Anchor 2000 AWARD’ for excellence in Public Architecture forTorrent Research Center”; the ‘UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage 2000 Conservation Award for’ Chanwar Palkhiwalon-ki Haveli”; Spectrum A + D Commendation Award’ in Public Buildings category, for “Udaivilas, a crafts utilization oriented Oberoi luxury resort” at Udaipur, India; and the A+D-Spectrum Award 2003 in the Public Building Category, ‘Indian Architect & Builder Award’ in the Designing for Corporate Culture in Social Responsibilities Category for ‘Torrent Research Centre’; and Century Ply-ITP Publications ’Aces of Space 2010’ Award in the Architecture : Hospitality & Leisure category.
