Government of Rajasthan (GOR) had setup a semi-autonomous cell called the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP) for the infrastructure development and heritage works in six cities of Rajasthan including Jaipur and Amber in which Rs.50 Crores were allocated for the conservation of various monuments, precincts and zones. Panika as the lead consultant to INTACH (Jaipur Chapter) headed the heritage conservation works.
The inclusion of the heritage component in the RUIDP package was resultant of the extensive work carried out by Abhikram and Panika and INTACH (Jaipur Chapter) on conservation and revitalization of various historic structures, zones and precincts of Amber and Jaipur since 1988.
The project encompassed the conservation and upgradation of historic gates, fort walls and their surrounding precincts of gates in Amber and Jaipur. The interventions addressed structural deterioration, restored architectural integrity and improved the adjoining public realm while retaining the historic character of the fortified urban fabric. Traditional materials, construction techniques and local craftsmanship were employed, reinforcing the visual and spatial continuity between the monuments, their precincts and the historic cityscape
